Valley Lighting Acquires Commonwealth Blinds & Shades
March 2026
Valley Lighting has acquired Commonwealth Blinds & Shades, a leading provider of commercial shading solutions serving the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast since 1996.
The acquisition expands Valley’s footprint across Maryland, Northern and Southern Virginia, and into the Southeast through North Carolina. It also strengthens Valley’s ability to serve commercial customers with a broader, more integrated offering across lighting and shading solutions.
Valley Lighting is a full-service partner to electrical contractors, general contractors, and facility owners, supporting customers through every step of complex commercial lighting and shading projects. The company is known for its design and product expertise, strong project management, and work across end markets including data centers, high-end government, healthcare, and education.
Commonwealth Blinds & Shades has built a strong reputation over nearly three decades in commercial shading solutions. The company brings deep customer relationships across contractors, universities, health systems, and property managers, along with industry-leading motorization expertise and a regional presence spanning Maryland, the D.C. metro, Richmond, and North Carolina.
Commonwealth also brings an attractive product portfolio that includes Draper, SWF Contract, Hunter Douglas, Lutron, MechoShade, Levolor, Mariak, and WT Shade. Its installation teams are recognized for strong execution on complex, large-scale projects.
“ This business is about trust — with your customers, your suppliers, and your team. Commonwealth has earned that trust over nearly 30 years, and it shows in everything they do. We’re proud to have them as part of the Valley platform, and we can’t wait to grow together,” said Kathy Deppe, CEO of Valley Lighting.
The combination creates a strong strategic fit. Both businesses share a customer-first approach centered on expertise, reliability, and execution. Commonwealth’s established presence in Richmond and North Carolina also creates an immediate opportunity for Valley to extend its asset-light lighting services into those markets.
Commonwealth Blinds & Shades will retain its name, team, and customer relationships, with no disruption to day-to-day operations.
Together, Valley and Commonwealth will offer customers a stronger combined platform, expanded capabilities, and a broader geographic reach as they continue to grow across the region.
